Introduction

Throughout history artists have struggled to conjure or assemble images upon surfaces, within spaces, or even in thin air, in the quest to find satisfying, expressive forms denied in Nature but imperative to human beings. While much of this effort falls short, may even seem silly and contrived, here and there works emerge that cause our eyes to open wide, that compel us to look, and look again. We may not always understand the messages, but we feel a touch or experience a moment of recognition that affirms some particle of the truth of our collective experience.
